Mastering city streets as a bike courier

Navigating busy urban streets can be a real challenge for us bike couriers. I’ve been experimenting with different apps to find the quickest ways around construction zones and heavy traffic, and I’m curious what others are using. Do any of you have go-to tricks or tools that really make a difference during your shifts?

I totally get the struggle navigating city streets… One app I swear by is Waze; it really helps with real-time traffic updates and finding shortcuts. Have you tried it yet?

I find it really helps to avoid certain streets during peak hours — like Main and 5th — because of the constant traffic. I usually take detours that seem longer but save time in the long run. Have you looked into alternative routes for your shifts?

Have you checked out Google Maps? Sometimes it’s great for avoiding construction zones with updated routes. What apps are you using now?

I usually rely on Citymapper when I’m biking through busy areas; it gives great public transport info and can help me find better routes around congestion. Have you given it a shot, or are you strictly sticking to apps like Waze and Google Maps?
