Green wave beats shortcuts

Signal progression has a green wave and it’s set to a speed. On my 7:10 a.m. run, holding 30 mph from Elm to Pine hits five greens in a row, while the alley cut-through adds two reds and about 90 seconds. I quit ducking alleys because of it — what’s the magic speed on your stretch?

On Maple to Third, 28 mph hits four greens at 7:30, and setting cruise makes it easy — like surfing lights; watch the crosswalk countdown — when it flips to WALK, you’re on the front edge of the wave. After 9 it drifts closer to 32 or dies if a bus platoon forms, so the “magic speed” isn’t fixed. Curious if the left‑turn pocket sensors kill the wave when you sit behind one car; they do on mine.

On River to Ash, 31 mph before 7:00 lands five greens, but after 7:05 it’s 26, so I keep two cruise presets and stop chasing alleys. If you get bumped by one red, dip to about 24 for a block and you usually re-sync with the wave — like threading a zipper. @jameson54, do you notice the offset change when the school flashers start?

I’ve found that keeping a steady 29 mph often gets me those greens without the headache of alleys; it’s way less stressful than trying to dart through side streets. @jameson54, do the school flashers throw off your timing too?
